The piece “Glory to Labor!” was initially done as part of a retrofit for a Soviet Moskvich 412 sportscar. It is the artist’s interpretation of the legendary sculpture Worker and Peasant by Vera Mukhina.

Valery Barykin has the most experience of anyone in crossing didactic Soviet posters and coquettish retro beauties from American magazine pin-ups. The artist immerses the viewer in the idyllic Soviet Stagnation, where a life-affirming song by Muslim Magomaev blares from a transistor radio. The abstemious driver, quite realistic, proudly presents his wages to his beautiful wife, while passengers on Aeroflot are being offered buttercream eclairs and pear soda pop. read more
