About author

Valery Barykin has the most experience of anyone in crossing didactic Soviet posters and coquettish retro beauties from American magazine pin-ups. The artist immerses the viewer in the idyllic Soviet Stagnation, where a life-affirming song by Muslim Magomaev blares from a transistor radio. The abstemious driver, quite realistic, proudly presents his wages to his beautiful wife, while passengers on Aeroflot are being offered buttercream eclairs and pear soda pop.  read more
