Anatoly Gankevich. Samurai III, 2007
51,18 x 78,74" (130 x 200 cm)
This project is a continuation of a series of works "Yellow", begun in 1993. It was conceived as an attempt to mix two dissimilar cultures, an attempt to “implant” an uncharacteristic language into the body of Japanese culture and to combine techniques that are different in technology and perception. On the one hand, the thinnest, lightweight Japanese engraving on snow-white paper, and on the other - heavy and brutal mosaic panels of Western Europe.
